PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) - It's been years in the making and it came two years early. On Thursday UTA celebrated the brand new FrontRunner South Line. It runs from Provo to Salt Lake City.

“This is a big day for the Wasatch front, this is a big day for Utah,” said Michael Allegra, General Manager of UTA.

UTA originally hoped to complete the line by 2015. The $850 million project required no federal money.

The FrontRunner South Line features seven new stations with park and ride lots and bus stops. At speeds of 79 miles an hour, it'll take roughly an hour to get from Salt Lake to Provo.

The line officially opens Monday.
