Their son, 17-year old Jesse Horowitz died Friday midnight after he was repeatedly stabbed during a school yard fight.
Police arrested the young man suspected of stabbing Horowitz and an accomplice.
His mother was at a funeral home in Magna Monday afternoon making arrangements for her son’s service. In the back of her SUV were several photographs of Jesse who starred for the high school football team last fall.
"He moved gracefully on the field like it was easy for him and it was," says Darcy Horowitz.
Jesse was a senior at Stansbury Park High School and was set to graduate in the coming weeks.
“He was going to Dixie (State University),” Horowitz says. “He got accepted to Dixie. I just took the letter from the mailbox from Dixie. I couldn't open it."
Friday midnight, Horowitz and a friend came to an elementary school in Stansbury Park. His mother says a friend had been called out to fight.
“One of his friends was going to fight he wanted to be there to back him up,” she says.
But somehow Horowitz ended up fighting and police say 20 year old Larry Beach stabbed him repeatedly. Beach and a friend, 19 year old Roy Coffey took off. Horowitz bled to death.
“I knew they caught these monsters,” the mother says. “They were 20 (years old). My son was a boy in a man's body."
She says graduation at Stansbury high will be too depressing. Instead she will try to focus on getting her message out in hopes of saving another teen’s life.
“I don't want these kids to fight anymore,” she says. “All Jesse's friends were there and couldn't see the knife. I want Jesse to not die in vain.”
The Tooele County deputy attorney says they expect to file murder charges against Beach Wednesday. The friend Roy Coffee could be facing obstruction charges.
