Family and friends honor men killed in boating accident

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Best friends to the end after a hunting expedition went terribly wrong.
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Best friends to the end after a hunting expedition went terribly wrong.

Two Utah men who played together also died together. They were on the Great Salt Lake Nov., 17 heading for shore in a boat after a duck hunt when the wind and waves kicked up and swamped their small boat.

Three men were thrown in near freezing waters. One man swam to shore and called for help, but it was too late for the other two when rescuers arrived.

The people who knew them best are honoring these men with memories of their lives.

Logan Hardman leaves behind an 11-month-old son named Brody, a 4-year-old daughter named Brynnlee and the love of his life Natasha Hardman. She first learned about her husband’s death Saturday.

"I'm still in shock. It's still not real to me yet and I'm just devastated, hurt and every other emotion you can imagine," said Natasha. She's honoring his life by remembering the man he was.

"He's an amazing father. He loves his family very much," Hardman said.

Natasha was reminded of her children’s love for their father every time he walked home form work. “They just lit up. They absolutely adored him. He just could make anyone smile that's my favorite thing about him. His smile was contagious," said Natasha.

Logan learned much about serving others during his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Georgia and Tennessee.

Family and friends say Logan was almost always with his best friend Chad.

“Chad's like a brother to me too so it's not like I just lost my husband. I love a brother," Natasha said.

We knocked on his grandmother's door in the Salt Lake Valley. She wasn't there, but we found her neighbor who also knows Chad. "He was always a soft spoken respectful," said Allen Canning.

Allen only met Chad four times, but says he hurts because of the pain he's watching his grandmother experience. "She is so broken hearted. It's sad to watch," Canning said.

Chad was a dutiful grandson visiting his grandmother often to serve her and to make sure all of her needs were met. "His family just adored him, especially his grandmother," said Canning.

Logan’s wife Natasha says she's taking comfort in her faith. She says she knows she'll be reunited with her husband.

A memorial fund has been set up for the Logan Hardman family. He's leaving behind a wife and two young children. You can donate to the “Logan Hardman” fund at any location of Zions Bank.
