EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - When a neighborhood in Eagle Mountain found out of their own had cancer they got creative and raised an pretty impressive amount of money for her medical costs all in just one day.

“Katy is a wonderful person in our community, she's our neighbor, she's our friend,” said Emily Russon of her friend Katy Allen who has been fighting breast cancer. “When we found out she had cancer we just wanted to do something to help her.”

So, they pulled out all the stops painting their lawns pink and going to work. Neighbors put on a major yard and cook-out. “We just thought a yard sale was a great way to make money because everybody has stuff sitting in their house they don't need,” said Russon.

It was an idea that paid off. After selling that all stuff in basements collecting dust, the neighbors raised $11,000 in one day all for Katy.

“I think it's pretty awesome that the whole community is banding around this woman and making it that her life will be easier,” said Wendy Lemaster, a customer.
