Crime in Provo has families living in fear

PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Residents living in a Provo apartment say they are fed up with the crime in their neighborhood.
PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Residents living in a Provo apartment say they are fed up with the crime in their neighborhood.

Victor Silva got into a fight with his girlfriend's mother at the apartment near 974 West 600 South. Silva was later stabbed and shot by his girlfriend's two brothers.

The children living at the apartment are tired of the crime.

"I would want to move," Jensen, a nine-year-old boy, says.

Jensen's mother Yadira Angel says she works a night shift and worries about leaving her nine children at home.

"I am going to stop working that late because my kids are so scared," Angel says.

Her neighbor, Kenna Hamaker, is fed up with the violence. Hamaker installed surveillance cameras in her apartment to keep an eye on the crime.

"I want a safer neighborhood," she says.

Hamaker has asked police to step up patrols in the neighborhood.

Provo police say the stabbing incident remains under investigation.
