He said, "The shoulder of the road was probably four or five feet wide and they were wide and they were half way off that into the gravel halfway between the gravel and asphalt shoulder."
Elder Garver is in stable condition recovering in a San Antonio hospital. He received a cut on his head even though he was wearing a bike helmet and Facebook pictures reveal a large bandage on his knee.
Spokesman for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Ruth Todd released this statement:
"Elder Michael Garver, 19, from Tooele, Utah who has been serving in Texas San Antonio Mission was struck by a vehicle while he and his companion were walking their bikes on the side of the road on 2 May 2013. He was taken to a nearby medical center for emergency care. Elder Garver is recovering very well and out thoughts and prayers are with his family. Elder Garver's companion was uninjured."
"He's in good spirits. He's smiling and he's doing great," said President Jones who expects Elder Garver to make a full recovery.
The Elder is expected to get out of the hospital in a few days. He could return to Tooele to continue healing.
