SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) -- Dignitaries, Baptist Church leaders, and the faithful members of his congregation came together Sunday to honor the Rev. France Davis on the 40th anniversary of his leadership of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Davis first came to Salt Lake City in 1972 after marching with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during the civil rights era.

"The wonderful thing about pastor Davis is that pastor Davis serves everybody," said congregation member Shauna Robertson. "You don't have to be a member of Calvary to look up in your sick room, because he will be there."

Davis is retiring this year as a professor at the University of Utah, but he will remain at the helm of Calvary Baptist Church.
