BYU named Utah's most desirable college

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) - College students in Utah know which university they like the most, but which one can claim it's the most desirable in the state? …the one the most students want to go to? A new study is out claiming it has the answer.
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) - College students in Utah know which university they like the most, but which one can claim it's the most desirable in the state? …the one the most students want to go to? A new study is out claiming it has the answer.

Whether you go to BYU or the U of U, college students in Utah are fanatic about their school.
But according to a new study, only one can claim to be the state's most desirable college.

"Which one is the most desirable in Utah?” Reporter Brian Carlson asked.

“I think the U," said Wendy Swope, Salt Lake Community College Student.

"It's probably say Utah State," said Melissa Siler.

"I think it's BYU," said Brandon Archibald, BYU student.

A study by eCollegeFinder which used statistics from the National Center for Education looked at the number of applications schools nationwide received last fall. They found, the most desirable college in the State of Utah is BYU.

"Good. Because that's where I go," said Archibald.

"Does that surprise you?” Carlson asked.

“Um not really," said Parker Beazer, Univ. of Utah student.

"Does that surprise you?” Carlson asked.

“Yes,” said Chadwin Michael Foley, Colorado Springs graduate.

“Why?” Carlson asked.

“Because the University of Utah is better," Foley said.

"That's crazy, you'd think it'd be the other way around,” said Swope.

The study shows BYU received 11,423 applications last fall, the most of any Utah school. It enrolled 31,060 students. Compare that to 24,840 enrolled students at the U, and 25,445 students at Utah State.

The question is why do more students choose BYU?

"There's just something about it that drew me to it," said Archibald.

"It's a whole different atmosphere than any other school out there, the kids, the environment, you don't get that anywhere other than BYU,” said Jenessa Beazer, BYU student.
