Sgt. Spencer Cannon with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said an emergency call came in around 7:00 p.m.
Cannon said two adults and four boys, believed to be Boy Scouts, were on a ski boat. The boat stalled in the water just as thunderstorms started to roll in.
Rescue crews said the group was about a quarter mile East of Lincoln Beach on the southern part of Utah Lake. All were transferred to another working boat and brought safely to shore.
Cannon said the incident is a reminder to avoid boating on days when rain is forecasted and the water is choppy.
“It could have been a lot worse,” Cannon said. “I mean the scary thing on Utah Lake is that when the wind and storms come up like that it's such a shallow lake that you could get three or four or even five foot waves and they're not far apart, they're really close together, and that makes it really difficult to navigate.”
