MAGNA, Utah (ABC 4 UTAH)- Another Wasatch Front neighborhood is on high alert Thursday night after an attempted child abduction. This afternoon, a 12-year old Magna girl says a man tried to grab her and force her in his van.   She was walking home at about 1:15pm from Elk Run Elementary School when a man tried to snatch her. This is the third incident like this in the past two months.

Elk Run Elementary School in Magna represents a place of learning and security.  A 12-year-old girl told Unified Police, when she left school Thursday afternoon that all changed.

"She walked over toward the car, realized she didn't know him. He grabbed on to her and pulled her.  But she yelled and he ran away," said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.

This is the third incident like this in recent memory. One girl reported being sexually assaulted in Orem. Then, another attempted abduction in West Jordan.

It's a grim reminder to parents and kids...stranger danger is real. Police say the Magna girl did everything right to escape her attacker.

"Like in this situation the suspect grabbed on to her she made noise to attract other people and he fled the area," said Lt. Hoyal.

Unified Police say the suspect is a white male in his 30s-40s. He was driving a light blue older van. The van only has windows on the front and passenger doors and not in the back. Call Unified Police at 385-468-9837
