Alleged drug deal sends two people to the hospital and a teen to detention

SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) – A drug deal gone wrong sent two men to the hospital and a sixteen year old boy to juvenile detention, but according to police three other men involved are still on the loose.
SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) – A drug deal gone wrong sent two men to the hospital and a sixteen year old boy to juvenile detention, but according to police three other men involved are still on the loose.

Sandy police say it happened in the Smith’s parking lot on 10305 South and 1300 East at about 12:45 Sunday morning.

They say the sixteen year old and a friend set up an appointment to buy marijuana from two drug dealers.

As they were discussing the transaction in the boys Jeep Grand Cherokee, two African American males approached and pulled the dealers out. Police say they assaulted the two men and shot one of them in the hip.

They were both transported to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries.

The sixteen year old boy was taken into custody a few hours later. Police say when they found him he was in possession of the drugs taken from the scene.

The boy was booked on several charges including aggravated robbery. Police are still following leads in the search for the other three suspects.
