SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - A South Jordan neighborhood is mourning the loss of two boys. A candlelight vigil was held for 12-year-old Taylor Wheeler and 15-year-old Dayton Gessell.

Finding strength in one another arms, friends and family gather to remember the two boys.

Taylor’s mother told ABC 4 Utah, "We light candles for the lights that got extinguished too soon and we're going to hold each other up."

Taylor's mother helped put together Sunday’s vigil, she says, so Dayton and Taylor’s friends could mourn and share stories about their loved ones.

“These kids need to be somewhere, together,” she said.

Taylor's friends remember the 12-year-old as someone who could always make you smile.

Paige Peterson said, "He was a funny guy. You could tell him anything. He'd always make you laugh and smile. He would always cheer you up."

Shawn Graham is Dayton Gessell's uncle.

Graham told ABC 4 Utah, "These two kids were so young with so much life ahead of them."

He says the 15-year-old was an amazing young man, full of life, with bright future ahead of him.

"At 15 that's way too young,” said Graham. “He wanted to be an engineer."

Those dreams were cut short Friday when gunshots rang out at the South Jordan home. Dayton, 12-year-old Taylor, and three other teenage boys at the home at the time. One of the boys ran out of the house and flagged down an off-duty officer. When emergency crews arrived they found Dayton and Taylor dead in the basement.

It's still not clear what exactly happened, but police did say three guns were found inside the home. And while questions remain, Dayton's uncle says there is a lesson here.

Graham said, "I have an 8 year old son, and we were talking on the drive here, we don't know what happened in there, but obviously there were guns involved you know and I was telling him anytime you're around when guns come out you need to leave."
