IRON COUNTY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - State wildlife officials are offering a reward for information to help them catch whoever killed a trophy buck deer and left it to rot in the Shurtz Canyon area south of Cedar City.

The buck's carcass was discovered on Nov. 30 by people who lived near the Shurtz Canyon area and were concerned after it hadn't been seen in a few days. The residents, who had been watching the deer for several days, hiked up to the area and reported the illegal shooting to officers from the Division of Wildlife Resources.

DWR officers also discovered a doe that had been shot and left there at about the same time as the buck.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Utah Turn in a Poacher Hotline at 1-800-662-3337 or the DWR Southern Region Office at 435-865-6100. Officials also are offering an $8,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in the case.
