40 million accounts may be involved in breach, Target says

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota (ABC 4 Utah) - If you made a purchase at target recently - and paid with a card - your information may have been stolen.

That’s the warning today from the nation's number 2 merchandise retailer.

Between November 27 and December 15, Target says about 40 million credit and debit card accounts for in-store shoppers were compromised.

Hackers reportedly stole data from those magnetic strips on the back of credit cards.

The secret service is investigating.
