About 15 or so years ago, I took my oldest son Casey golfing at Old Mill. Just a quick little round one summer afternoon. First hole, I hit my drive down the left side. Edge of the rough if I remember correctly. (Who am I kidding? Almost all my drives end up in the rough!). Casey hit a couple of shots down the right side, so he was across the fairway when I stepped up to my 2nd shot. I was about 167 away, a little uphill. I hit a 6 iron. It started a bit right and curved back, took a couple of hops, and disappeared into the cup. An eagle!!! I don't know who was more excited, me or Casey. He was screaming and jumping up and down. I was more reserved. OK, I was screaming and jumping up and down as well. It was a nice way to start my round, 2 under par. I stepped up to the 2nd tee and said, "Anybody beat a 2?". Ha! I would like to say my under par round lasted, but of course it didn't. But it was pretty cool. The longest shot I've holed that wasn't a mulligan (more on that in a later blog). And it was really cool that my son was there to witness it.
