SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - Former Ute and Salt Lake Bees first baseman C.J. Cron gets called up to the Major Leagues for the first time, and will hit 5th for the Angels tonight against Texas.
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - The Los Angeles Angels announced today that the club has selected the contract of former University of Utah and Salt Lake Bees first baseman C.J. Cron. The Bees slugger will join the club in Anaheim and is in the Angels’ lineup tonight hitting fifth as the designated hitter.
Cron, a former University of Utah star, has played in 28 games for Salt Lake, hitting .319 with 12 doubles, six home runs and 26 RBIs. At the time of his call up Cron was leading the Pacific Coast League in doubles, and extra-base hits (19), while ranking third in RBIs.
Along with Cron the Angels have recalled infielder Luis Jimenez, who has a team-high seven home runs for Salt Lake this season. Halos third baseman David Freese was placed on the disabled list and outfielder J.B. Shuck was optioned to Salt Lake to make room for Jimenez and Cron.
