Flames ship Stempniak to Penguins

<p>The Pittsburgh Penguins made another move towards bolstering their forward depth at Wednesday's trade deadline, acquiring right wing Lee Stempniak from the Calgary Flames for a third-round pick in this year's draft.</p>

Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pittsburgh Penguins made another move towards bolstering their forward depth at Wednesday's trade deadline, acquiring right wing Lee Stempniak from the Calgary Flames for a third-round pick in this year's draft.

A nine-year veteran with 616 regular-season games of NHL experience, Stempniak provides the Penguins with a seasoned two-way forward who has compiled 146 goals and 330 points over his career. The 31-year-old registered eight goals and 15 assists in 52 games with the Flames this season.

Stempniak has surpassed the 25-goal mark twice during his career, netting a personal-best 28 in 2009-10 and 27 while with St. Louis in 2006-07. The New York native will be competing for his fifth team, having previously played for Toronto and Phoenix in addition to the Flames and Blues.

He joins a Pittsburgh team that added checking center Marcel Goc in a trade with Florida earlier on Wednesday.
