Dana Greene - Andersen gets his just rewards

Gary Andersen deserves his big pay day at Wisconsin, and Utah State fans should simply thank him for turning their program around.
Gary Andersen deserves what's coming to him.

He deserves the two million dollars per year pay day. He deserves to play for a Big Ten championship, a national championship, and a spot in the Rose Bowl every season. He deserves to play in front of 80,000 fans every week. He deserves to play on national television every single week. He deserves to try to take down his old boss, Urban Meyer, when Wisconsin plays Ohio State.

Gary Andersen deserves it all. Utah State fans should have no hard feelings.

Come on, you knew this day was coming. He took a 3-win team and turned it into an 11-win team. He led the Aggies to a top-20 ranking and its first bowl victory in 19 years. What he did in just four years is nothing short of miraculous.

You thought you would be able to hold on to this guy?

I know three weeks ago he said he loved Cache Valley and wanted to ride the momentum of this historic season. I know he said he was staying. But that was when Colorado, Cal and Kentucky were calling -- not Wisconsin. This is an entirely different situation. This is the big time. He's even out-big-timed his other old boss, Kyle Whittingham.

Nobody, and I mean nobody should begrudge Gary Andersen this opportunity. Wisconsin is one of the most prestigious jobs in the country, and these openings don't come around very often.

The fact that Wisconsin was even interested in Andersen is a huge compliment to Utah State. Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez saw first hand Andersen's influence on the Utah State program. The Aggies should have beaten the Badgers back in September in Madison, and Alvarez must have figured if Andersen could do that with WAC recruits, what could he do with Big Ten talent?

This is a great day for Gary Andersen and Aggie fans should be proud.

Now its up to athletic director Scott Barnes to make the right hire and continue what Andersen started.
