AVP launches developmental SLC tournament

SALT LAKE (ABC 4 Sports) - AVPNext, the official developmental program for the AVP beach tour, will launch in SLC June 24th.
SALT LAKE (ABC 4 Sports) - The Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP), in partnership with Centra360, announced today that the professional beach volleyball organization will begin hosting AVPNext developmental competitions in select markets throughout the country this summer, offering the stars of tomorrow a proving ground, a shot at cash prizes and the grand prize of a chance to play their way into the AVPNext Championship Cup and season-ending AVP Championships at Huntington Beach.

"The AVP recognizes the tremendous amount of enthusiasm for beach volleyball and untapped talent that exists across the country," said AVP Director of competition Jeff Conover. "The AVPNext series provides an opportunity for these talented players and teams to continue to develop their games, while also offering a clear path to reach the next level of the sport."

Recognizing the talent and high participation levels in Salt Lake City, AVPNext - the official developmental program for the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour - will open its Salt Lake City competition on June 24 at Wasatch Beach at The Sports Mall (5445 South 900 East Murray). AVPNext Salt Lake City competition will include Session II of Wasatch Cup Volleyball League round robin pool play during the weeks of June 23 and 30, July 7, 14 and 21. Following pool play, the top teams will be seeded - based on pool play performance and results - into a double elimination tournament which will take place the week of July 28. The finals of the AVPNext Salt Lake City tournament will be held on Aug.5.

The top men's and women's teams from the AVPNext Salt Lake City competition will be awarded cash prizes and a trip to Huntington Beach, Calif. to take part in the AVPNext Championship Cup. The winners of the AVPNext Championship Cup will earn automatic berths into the AVP Championships at Huntington Beach, joining beach volleyball's best for the season finale.
