Jacob Hannemann drafted by Chicago Cubs

PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 Sports) - BYU outfielder and former Lone Peak High star Jacob Hannemann was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 3rd round of the Major League Baseball Draft.
PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 Sports) - BYU outfielder Jacob Hannemann became the first local player selected in the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft when he was selected in the 3rd round by the Chicago Cubs.

Hannemann was the 75th pick overall.

In his only season at BYU, Hannemann hit .344 with 5 home runs and 25 RBI's and was named the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year. Hannemann said he will leave school early to pursue a career in professional baseball.

Hannemann was a 2-sport star at Lone Peak High School, where he also played football. Hannemann originally signed to play football at BYU in 2010 before leaving on his LDS mission. Upon his return, he decided to play baseball instead.

Hannemann was drafted in the 48th round by the Kansas City Royals in 2010, but chose to attend BYU.
