Hoffman set to make BYU history

PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 Sports) - Cody Hoffman should own every BYU receiving record in the book by the end of the season.
PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 Sports) - There have been some great wide receivers in BYU history, from Phil Odle to Eric Drage to Austin Collie.

But Cody Hoffman should blow them all out of the water.

Hoffman is on pace to shatter every BYU career receiving record. All he needs is 19 catches, 538 yards and 3 touchdowns, and he will own the all-time school record in all three categories.

"I didn't expect this to happen," Hoffman said. "That wasn't my mindset coming in. I didn't intend to come here out of high school breaking records. I just came to play and do what I do best. It just so happens that I might break all the records."

Knowing the history at BYU, Hoffman isn't taking his accomplishments lightly.

"It means a lot knowing the tradition," Hoffman said. "With all the prestigious quarterbacks they've had and other good receivers, it means a lot."

Hoffman is coming off a spectacular junior season, in which he caught 100 passes for 1,248 yards and 11 touchdowns. The truly amazing part is he did that with three different quarterbacks (Riley Nelson, Taysom Hill and James Lark). Now that he some stability with Hill, can Hoffman be even better?

"That's hard to say," Hill said. "Cody was pretty freaking good last year. The thing about Cody that makes him so good is that he catches pretty much everything you throw at him, but he's also really smart. He has a really good feel for the defense."

"As much as we practice together, it's only going to get better with time," Hoffman said about his chemistry with Hill. "We're not getting complacent."

If he stays healthy, by season's end, Hoffman should own every BYU receiving record in the book.
