BYU preparing more more total plays

PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 Sports) - Offensive Coordinator Robert Anae is affecting both sides of the ball in Provo.
PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 Sports) - BYU players on offense and defense expect to be on the field for a lot more plays this year compared to last season.

"We're going to average about 16 more defensive plays than we played last year," Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall said.  "That is the equivalent of one more quarter of defensive football."

The preparation stems from Offensive Coordinator Robert Anae's fast-paced approach.  Anae wants to "go fast, go hard" in hopes of breaking down opposing defenses.

"As far as the offense goes, we trust him and we like it," BYU Quarterback Taysom Hill said.

Anae believes the more plays a well conditioned BYU runs, the more likely the Cougars will end up on the right side of the Win-Loss column.

"The very first day I told our players, that means more conditioning.  That means more preparation.  It means more pressure," said Mendenhall.

"We're going to do real well in it," said Hill.
