I'm primarily a news guy now but I did the sports thing for quite a few years and got to go Super Bowls, World Series, NBA Finals and Final Fours...but some of the most thrilling games I've ever attended have been this fall...with an average crowd of about 20.
It's the Intermountain Lacrosse Girls Under 10 Division....no big stadiums...no big contracts...just a ball, two refs and 14 girls with sticks playing their hearts out on Saturday mornings.
This sport is very popular on the East Coast and in Canada and thanks to the people at Intermountain it's gaining a foothold here in Utah. Of course the reason I enjoyed these games so much was because I wasn't there as a reporter or a fan...I was there as a Dad. That's my daughter Allie in black, playing some defense - then in another recent game, digging for the ball, staying with it and whipping it into the net. Congratulations to Allie and her Lone Peak teammates Brooke, Devany, Malia, McKenna, Naomi and Tessa and Coach Winger on a great 4-1 season.
After all the negative things we sometimes see in pro and big time college sports, it's fun to see athletes who play just for fun...and a donut after the game.
