Real Salt Lake scores twice in final minutes to beat Colorado, 2-1

Yura Movsisyan and Brooks Lennon score late goals in dramatic

COMMERCE CITY, Col. (ABC4 Sports) - Real Salt Lake came from a goal down in the final five minutes with goals from Yura Movsisyan and Brooks Lennon to top the Colorado Rapids 2-1 Saturday night at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

"Ecstatic, not just for the win but for the guys," said head coach Mike Petke, who improved to 2-0-0 with RSL. "They knew coming into halftime that it wasn't good enough. They were already laying into each other. It still wasn't great coming into the second half but we had a bit more urgency. They didn't stop until they got it."

"It's awesome, one of the toughest places to go in and get a result," Movsisyan said. "Playing as bad as we did, it was kind of nice."

In a back-and-forth first half, Colorado broke the deadlock through a Kevin Doyle header in the 29th minute. RSL and the Rapids went into halftime with that 1-0 score line thanks to several key saves from goalkeeper Nick Rimando.

The second half didn't see many real chances for either side until the final ten minutes of the match. Movsisyan buried an 85th minute penalty after Rapids defender Jared Watts was called and then sent off for a handball that denied defender Chris Wingert a goal.

Just three minutes later the 19-year-old Lennon bagged his first goal in an RSL shirt as he cut in and launched a rocket into the bottom corner of Zac MacMath's net for the game-winning goal.

"We kept pushing, played the style we wanted to play," Lennon said. "Eventually got the penalty kick and the red card helped us out. Once we got that first goal, we knew the second one was coming."

RSL (2-3-2) returns to Rio Tinto Stadium to take on Atlanta United in a cross-conference matchup on April 22.
