Lone Peak, Pleasant Grove to play for 6A state title

Knights beat Layton in 6A semifinals, while Vikings hold off Copper Hills

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Sports) - Pleasant Grove will get one more shot at arch rival Lone Peak.

The Vikings advanced to the 6A boys basketball championship game with a 57-42 victory over Copper Hills Friday night at the Huntsman Center.

Casey Brown led the way with 25 points on 10 of 15 shooting, while Matt Van Komen added 17 points and 5 rebounds. Pleasant Grove outrebounded the Grizzlies, 27-18 and pulled away with a strong fourth quarter.

Pleasant Grove will take on Lone Peak for the third time this season Saturday in the 6A championship game. The Vikings, who haven't won a state title since 1961, lost two close contests to the Knights this season.

Lone Peak had very little trouble with Layton in the other 6A semifinal, 82-47. Chantry Ross led the way with 17 points and 9 assists, while Steven Ashworth scored 16 points and Max Brenchley had a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

The Knights took a 10-point lead into the half, before taking complete control of the game in the second half, outscoring the Lancers, 45-20.

The Knights and Vikings will play for the 6A championship Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Huntsman Center.
