SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Sports) - The battle of Lehi turned out to be no contest.
Cam Cooper threw for five touchdowns and rushed for two more, as Lehi trounced crosstown rival Skyridge in the 5A championship game, 55-17.
This is Lehi's first state football championship since 2000.
"From my freshman year going 0-10 to where we are now is just indescribable," said Cooper. "How much I love these guys, and how much we came together and did what we did is amazing."
After a slow start, Cooper turned it on late in the first quarter. He threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Kade Moore, then scored on an 19-yard touchdown run to give the Pioneers a 14-3 lead.
Dallin Holker and Kyler Welsh each caught two touchdown passes, as Lehi blew the game open with a 27-point third quarter.
Carsen Manookin rushed for 112 yards including a 73-yard touchdown run to make it 41-3 Lehi.
Cooper scored his second rushing touchdown on a 44-yard jaunt in the fourth quarter.
"It feels awesome,," said Holker, who had 9 catches for 151 yards and two touchdowns. "Best feeling in the world. Especially with this team. These teammates deserve it. They deserve everything. And the coaches, they're amazing. It's awesome."
"There's just no words to describe what I'm feeling," said head coach Ed Larsen. "Love my players, love my assistant coaches. This community, look at this thing staying behind us. This group of people, it's just unbelievable. Loved every minute and enjoyed the moment and that's what I promised myself tonight I was going to do."
Skyridge, in just its second year of existence, got a 91-yard kickoff return for a touchdown from Eli Pulu.
