Juan Diego wins third straight 3A state championship

Milford and South Summit also win state football titles

OGDEN, Utah (ABC4 Sports) - The Juan Diego dynasty marches on.

Zach Hoffman threw for 162 yards and a touchdown, and also rushed for 133 yards and three more scores, as the Soaring Eagle beat Morgan for the 3A title, 45-20.

Hunter Easterly scored two touchdowns, while Tristan Tonozzi rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown as Juan Diego pulled away.

"That's our 8th title at Juan Diego in the last 16 years," said head coach John Colosimo. "It's been quite a run and I'm real excited for our kids. Every year they just rise to the occasion, they battle, they had some adversity and they just came battling back."

"We came out early," said Easterly. "We were trying to do our best, play as a team and get that win. Then we came out in the second half, they got us a little bit, but we ended up bouncing back and taking the win. We've got an awesome program, awesome coaches that push us to be better and better everyday."

In the 2A championship game in Cedar City, Kael Atkinson threw for two touchdowns, and Jared Dansie rushed for two scores as South Summit completed a perfect 12-0 season with a 38-10 win over Beaver.

Milford upset Duchesne in the 1A championship game to win its first state title in 24 years, 28-14. Bryson Barnes threw three touchdown passes, two to Cole Wilson, as Milford raced out to a 21-0 lead and held on.
