WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) - They had a lot of fun this afternoon at the Maverik Center, but the money goes to a serious cause.
It's the 15th Annual ‘Guns and Hoses’ Hockey Classic. Area law enforcement officers do battle with local firefighters on the ice. The money each year goes to help families of some of our fallen heroes.
Jared Youngman, of the Utah Grizzlies, told Good4Utah “This year we just had the firefighter that passed away in an accident so part of the money raised tonight will go to his family. Last year we had Officer Barney. Every year there’s those guys that are officers and firefighters that part of the money raised from this event will go back to help their families.”
It was a hard fought battle. These guys have fun, but take the game seriously. In the end the guns beat the hoses 9-3. One of the firefighters told us they let the police win just to make them feel better.
