Suspect in Car Theft with Children Inside Identified

Layton Police have been able to identify the suspect and are now looking for him

LAYTON, Utah (ABC4 News) The suspect who stole a vehicle with two small children inside has been identified and police are asking for help in finding him.

Police say Tyler Allen Williams, 26, was confronted by a Layton police officer around 3 p.m. Friday because he was acting suspiciously around the Stone Hedge Apartment Complex. The man ran from the officer and during the foot pursuit, jumped into a car as a couple was tending to their children who were inside the vehicle, and took off, all while a surveillance camera caught the entire incident on tape.

Police say Williams dropped the infant and a 3-year-old off at the Cal Ranch store and fled in the stolen car. The children were not physically harmed.

Police are now asking the public for help in finding Williams as he currently has several outstanding warrants for his arrest and is listed as a fugitive from Adult Probation and Parole.

It is believed Williams stole a vehicle from Taylorsville earlier Friday before abandoning the car in Layton just prior to his contact with the Layton officer.

Williams is now facing additional charges of evading, reckless endangerment involving a child, vehicle theft and several misdemeanor traffic violations.

If anyone has information on William's whereabouts they are asked to call Layton City Police Department at 801-497-8300 or their local police agency.
