Salt Lake Imam returning to Utah

Returning to U.S. after being put on no-fly list

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) - The Imam at Salt Lake's Madina Mosque is finally coming home.

Yussef Abdi is an American citizen, but he and his family were detained coming home from Kenya when he was put on a no fly list.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations filed an emergency suit in federal court and Imam Yussef is on a plane right now.

Brad Parker, Yussef Abdi’s lawyer, told us, "He spent just a terrible night in the airport with his wife and his five children. They were scared, they didn't know what to do. They've tried again to fly home but were again told the United States wouldn't allow him in."

The court ruled in his favor and he's scheduled to land later tonight at Salt Lake International.
