WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC4 News) UPDATE: Police in West Jordan have arrested 26-year-old Troy Sickler after the public helped identify him through surveillance photos shared through media outlets.
West Jordan Police Detective J.C. Holt issued a press released saying their department responded to several tips that came into their office Friday night. The suspect was successfully identified and after police questioned Sickler, he was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
Holt stated their department is appreciative of the community support and for all of the local news agencies in helping to identify the suspect.
"The County Library recognizes and appreciates the swift action by all to protect our children," said Jim Cooper, Salt Lake County Library Director. "Safety at the library for our young patrons and their families is paramount to us"
Post Miranda, Sickler admitted to the assault, even after the child told him to stop.
He has been charged with sex abuse of a child and was also charged with kidnapping because he intentionally confined and held the child in the restroom with the intent to commit the crimes.
A search of Sickler's arrest record lead to the discovery that he was arrested in March of 2015 for a similar act at a West Valley City Library but the case was dismissed after he was found incompetent.
