SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- Posters with phrase “It’s Okay to Be White” were reportedly found in several places around the University of Utah campus this week.
The university’s Office for Equity and Diversity said the posters “appear to be part of a nationwide campaign with the purpose to create division throughout our campus community.”
Posters similar to these have been spotted at universities across the nation.
“If, indeed, these tactics are meant to silence our work in diversity and inclusion, please know we shall not be deterred,” a Facebook post on the Officer for Equity and Diversity said.
Officials with the university say they will continue to engage the campus in critical discussion and work together to enact real change.
"We have no evidence that there are white nationalist groups operating on campus. By university policy, registered groups cannot target or discriminate against a specific population," university spokeswoman Annalisa Purser said.
She says the university has a posting policy and if posters have not gone through the correct process they will be removed, no matter what they state.
If you believe you have experience a hate crime at the U of U, you may report it directly to the University Campus Police at 801-585-2677 or Salt Lake City Police Department at 801-799-3000. You may also report incidents online.
