Man who died in Bell Canyon while trail running identified

UPDATE: Police have identified the victim as 39-year-old Zachery Zimmerman of Lehi.

SANDY, Utah (ABC4)-A 39-year-old man is dead today after he was found in Bell Canyon Saturday afternoon after he fell off of a 500-foot cliff near Big Horn Peak around 9:20 am. 

The victim was trail running with his friend when he slipped and fell 500 feet down a cliff. 

Utah Department of Safety responded to the call and attempted to life-flight the man to safety, but he died of head trauma, said Lt. Lorhke with Unified Police Department. His body was recovered from the bottom of the canyon. 

Detectives are looking into the circumstances surrounding the fall. 

Big Horn Peak is approximately 11,000 feet above sea level.
