Boy Scouts hope to collect over 1 million meals statewide

This weekend marks the 31st annual Scouting for Food to benefit Utah Food Bank

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – 55,000 Boy Scouts fanned out across the state today collecting food for needy families around Utah.

People were asked to out boxes or bags of food this week. The scouts collected them today at drop off points like this one at Elkridge Middle School in South Jordan.

When it’s all over, they hope to have collected nearly 1 and a half million meals statewide.

For the scouts involved, it’s an effort of love. Aaron Varga told Good4Utah, “More service I think, just to help the people in our local community that   need more help getting food that have been struggling. It’s for us to help them because we have more   than enough here so we have to give service to them.”

This annual event is organized by the Utah Food Bank. Everything collected goes back to food pantries around the state. Last year the scouts collected over a million meals in one day.
