Block party in downtown SLC celebrates family history

Event put on by LDS Church

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) - The Family History Block Party in Downtown Salt Lake put on by the LDS Church happened today. And they say it was a big success.

Hundreds of people came to have some family fun with both indoor and outdoor activities.

But the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints had a bigger message for those attending.

Ramon Naisbitt, with the Family History Library, told Good4Utah, “It’s an event that we try to get the locals involved to come down and see the family history library and he church history museum. Many of our locals have never set foot inside the buildings before, so every year we organize a great big block party with bounce houses, rock climbing wall and live entertainment as a way to introduce family history to people in fun and exciting ways.”

This is the third year they've done this and organizers say it gets bigger each year.
