1 man dead after skiing accident

SNOWBASIN, Utah (ABC4 Utah) - A skier has died at Snowbasin in Weber County.

Deputies say a man struck a tree, was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he died. 

Weber County released this statement:

"On 12-31-16 at 1310 hours Weber County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to Snowbasin Ski Resort on a report of a traumatic injury.

Ryan Roberts (24) from Ogden, Utah was skiing on the Penny Lane slope when he veered off the slope and hit a nearby tree. It is unknown what caused the crash as there was not any witnesses, however a person nearby heard the crash and alerted the ski patrol. Snowbasin Ski Patrol treated Roberts at the scene and he was transported to the parking lot to an awaiting ambulance. The ambulance transported Mr. Roberts to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Utah Medical Examiner's Office is investigating the case to determine an exact cause of death. Mr. Roberts was wearing a helmet.

The Weber County Sheriff's Office sends its condolences to the family of Mr. Roberts."
