Wyoming man killed in southern Utah crash

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) - An 81-year-old man is dead after a single vehicle crash in southern Utah Monday.

Utah Highway Patrol says Edwin L. Smith of Grover, Wyo. died at the scene of the rollover crash late Monday afternoon.

A 2008 Ford pickup truck pulling a 2-axel camper trailer was traveling southbound on Interstate-15. Near milepost 32, troopers say Smith lost control of the vehicle and went off the road left, striking the guardrail. Smith then corrected to the left, and then over corrected to the right. The truck went off the road to the right and went up a dirt embankment. As the truck rolled the Smith was ejected out of the driver side window.

The truck came to rest on its wheels facing north and in the right shoulder. The camper came to rest on its top also facing north, and just behind the truck. Troopers say it appears Smith was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver came to rest near the truck.

Emergency crews arrived on scene shortly after the crash, but Smith died at the scene. The crash is still under investigation.
