Drug stop leads to high-speed chase in southern Utah

CEDAR CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) - An attempted drug leads to a long high-speed chase in southern Utah. It started in Cedar City on I-15 and ended just 7 miles north of Beaver.

Utah Highway Patrol tried to stop a car with multiple suspects. The trooper called a K9 to search the car on suspicion of drugs.

When the suspects were asked to step out of the car, they took off. Troopers chased them, and speeds reached 115 mph. Troopers laid down spikes, eventually stopping the suspects and arrested them.

Now they face drug and evasion charges. Investigators say about 10 pounds of methamphetamine was found in the trunk of the car. 

The suspects were identified as Jose A. Chavez, 26, (driver) and Yessenia Menodoza, 26, (passenger). 

No one was hurt during the chase.
