Gov. Herbert to undergo surgery for kidney stones

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah) – Utah Governor Gary Herbert to undergo surgery for kidney stones.

Herbert was diagnosed with two kidney stones after seeing a specialist at LDS Hospital Tuesday following some unexplained abdominal pain.

“Although he has been experiencing pain, he remains in good spirits and has maintained a full schedule,” said Herbert’s Deputy Chief of Staff Paul Edwards.

Herbert gave the annual State of the State Address Wednesday night. After his speech he visited with justices of the Supreme Court and went out for Mexican food with his family.

Herbert is scheduled for kidney stone removal surgery on Friday afternoon. In accordance with the state constitution, a proclamation transferring authority to the lieutenant governor will go into effect when the governor goes under anesthesia around 3 p.m.
