You may see a 'Blockbuster Summer Safety Message' when you go to a movie

The Utah Highway Safety Office, law enforcement, Brigham Young University (BYU) film students and Larry H. Miller Megaplex Theatres have teamed up to bring an important summer safety message to Utah's movie theaters.

Starting the month of May, moviegoers at select Megaplex and Cinemark theaters will see a special type of movie trailer - either a preview featuring the dangers of drunk driving in the Wild West or a twist on a modern day action flick conveying the consequences of driving under the influence - each message courtesy of law enforcement.

In addition to the in-theater movie trailers, The Utah Highway Patrol, along with city and county law enforcement agencies, will be conducting roving DUI patrols and setting up sobriety checkpoints over the summer months.

During the summer months of 2013, law enforcement officers across Utah made 3,963 arrests for driving under the influence. Sponsors of this campaign remind motorists that impaired driving is a crime and often leads to crashes with both injuries and fatalities.
