Memorial honoring 9/11 victims set for Kaysville

- KAYSVILLE, Utah (AP) - A memorial honoring Utahns killed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will be built at the Utah State University Botanical Center in Kaysville.

A dedication ceremony is set for Sept. 11 after $50,000 in donations was secured for the memorial.

The monument will consist of five wall-mounted plaques. The plaques will bear inscriptions to three Utah civilians killed in the attacks and to 58 "Utah Fallen Soldiers" killed in the wars.

Kaysville residents Mary Alice Wahlstrom and her daughter, Carolyn Beug, were on American Airlines Flight 11 when the hijacked commercial airliner crashed into the World Trade Center.

Brady Howell, a former Logan resident, was killed while working at the Pentagon.

The decade-long fundraising effort was spearheaded by Youth of Promise.
