Thousands of pages of documents uncover the latest on Josh Powell’s obsession with the Cox family and the Mormon Church, along with his usage of child porn and the impact it had on his children, 7-year-old Charlie and 5-year-old Braden.
These papers serve as a recollection of details from the last two years of the Powell tragedy, everything from Josh Powell's psychological evaluations, to his visits with his sons, and even email exchanges from social workers and Utah authorities.
During one evaluation, Josh Powell told the psychologist, Dr. James Manley, Ph.D, that he "strongly suspected that the Cox family and a militant faction of the Mormon Church were attempting to kidnap his children to keep them in the church."
It seems that over time Josh's beliefs and accusations seemed to brainwash his children. In fact social workers involved believe both Charlie and Braden were reciting statements they had heard from their dad.
One such statement allegedly happened at Charlie's school in Washington, where his teacher claimed that Charlie had told her that he wanted to "kill a boy in his class because he was Mormon and that Mormons are ordered to kill people and scientists who believe in Jesus."
While the boys were in foster care they were overheard saying things like "Mormons are trying to steal us" and that they hated Jesus.
In another bizarre twist, a teacher at Charlie's school also claimed that the seven-year-old had admitted he "knew how to kill and bury a bear, throw rocks at it, then you plant raspberry bushes over the bear because it makes the best tasting raspberries.”
Also during these evaluations, Josh denied ever looking at child porn, but admitted to viewing images of adult porn.
The documents graphically detail the incestuous nature of the child porn that was found on Josh's computer in his West Valley home two years ago.
Josh admitted to a psychologist that his father, Steve Powell had “hit on Susan”, Josh’s wife, ten years prior to her disappearance, but that it was "time to forgive and forget."
From these evaluations, Dr. Manley listed Josh Powell's mental stability as “not secure," and diagnosed him with some personality disorders including narcissistic personality disorder and adjustment disorder with anxiety.
Disturbing images were also found in the packet of documents. One was reportedly drawn by Josh Powell when he was a teenager. It's entitled "Daddy Mormon Basher," and shows a man wielding an axe, with a devil a surrounded by people.
Another image titled "Don't Play With Me" was allegedly drawn by one of the Powell boys recently. It's unclear who or what is depicted in the picture, but it shows a person lying on the ground, while two other people who are holding hands look on.
In January Josh Powell was court-ordered to undergo a psycho-sexual evaluation, but that never took place because he killed himself and his two sons in early February.
