The most recent growth comes from Station Park. It is the first in a major wave of commercial development and new money for the city. Station Park developers say the addition of shops, restaurants and businesses will bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars for the city every year.
Craig Trottier with Centercal Properties, the company bringing Station Park to Farmington, told ABC4, “Folks can stay at home and spend their money and not drive that 20 to 30 minutes to Salt Lake.”
While the growth is good, it has come with caution from the community and mayor.
Farmington Mayor Scott Harbertson told ABC4, “The city fathers did not want commercial development in Farmington and that has worked well for all of these years.”
The growth has been slow, but necessary. Because of the commercial growth, Farmington has not raised its property taxes in 8 years. In the past, Lagoon’s taxes have carried the city; but with the surge in population those taxes are not enough.
Commercial development is now sharing that financial burden and helping the community grow and continue to be ranked as one of the Nation’s best.
