Car barrels through backyard fence in Kearns

KEARNS, Utah (ABC 4 News) -  It’s an ongoing problem for one community in Kearns, and now ABC 4 is taking action to help them feel safe in their own homes, after cars continue to plow into their backyard fences.

Living on a busy road one homeowner, Alberto Rincon, put up a fence to protect his son.

“The family is in danger with drivers all of the time going through the fences,” says Rincon.

A driver traveling through at a high rate of speed, left behind tire marks on the sidewalk, evidence the driver tried to slam on the brakes before barreling through Rincon’s backyard fence.

Rincon remembers, “I heard a big noise, and I said oh my goodness, something has happened.  I ran out and saw the car ran through the fence and hit the other car”.

Rincon says this is the 7th time someone has plowed through his fence that backs up against 5600 west.

His neighbor, Stephen Wright, tells ABC 4 News, “I’ve had to rebuild this fence 2 or 3 times now”.

Those who live in this neighborhood want the county to put up a concrete barrier to protect their homes.

Salt Lake County told ABC 4 last January, they planned to send out engineers to take a look at the situation.  It appears as if they never have to homeowners like Rincon, who is

now, taking matters into his own hands.

“The guy tried to run away, but I went and pulled the keys out of the car and said wait here.  Then, the cops came,” says Rincon.

ABC 4 tried unsuccessfully to reach someone in the county’s administration to find out

when the engineers will be looking at this neighborhood.
