OREM, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) – Police are waiting to sift through some dazzling defecation, after a woman allegedly stole an expensive ring and then swallowed it!

They say 'diamonds are a girl's best friend,' but one woman's digestive system may soon disagree.

Orem police say Christina Schlegel waited in a car, as her alleged partner-in-crime stole a pricey piece of jewelry. It happened at the Zales Jewelers inside University Mall in Orem. Police say Brian Ford took a ring, hopped into the car with Schlegel, and then raced westbound down University Parkway. Thirty minutes later, Utah Valley University police caught up with them but could not find the ring because Schlegel had swallowed it!

"The transit time out of the intestinal tract can be hours to weeks. Some people can be a short amount of time, some people can be a longer amount of time…The narrow areas are typically above the stomach…It just depends on if it gets hung up in any place in the intestines," said Jeremy Coleman, MD, Medical Director of Sandy Urgent Care Clinic

Both suspects are now behind bars on charges of felony theft. As for Zales Jewelers, they are still waiting to retrieve that diamond in the rough.

Orem police were unavailable to make an official statement, Sunday night, but they did say that piece of jewelry is worth several thousand dollars.

It is unclear on whether or not Zales will try to sell the ring, once it has been retrieved.
