Unified police investigating attempted kidnapping

KEARNS, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) – Unified police are investigating an attempted kidnapping. Police say a 12-year-old female was walking with her 18-year-old aunt on Charlotte Avenue in Kearns when a man grabbed her.

Police say the incident happened Saturday. 

The suspect was parked on the side of the road and standing next to his vehicle with the doors open.

As the 12-year-old passed the vehicle, the man grabbed her from behind and started to pull her back toward his vehicle.

The aunt hit the man in the head causing him to let go of the girl.

He was last seen fleeing west bound on Cross Street. Neither the victim nor the aunt was injured in the attempted abduction. Once they got home they contacted police.

Suspect: Hispanic male, 5’11”, 235 lbs., mustache, short black hair, blue jeans, maroon jersey, and white shoes.

Suspect Vehicle: Black SUV (possibly a Chevy Tahoe), 4 doors, and shiny rims with a black center of the rim.

Unified Police Detectives are investigating this case and are seeking the public’s help in identifying the listed suspect. If anyone has information as to the suspect’s identity or were in the area and saw something suspicious they are asked to call the Unified Police Department at 801-743-7000.
