Two officers injured in downtown shooting, suspect killed

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Early Friday morning two Salt Lake City police officers were shot and injured by a suspect in downtown Salt Lake City.  It happened at 300 South West Temple.

Officers say the suspect was a passenger in a suspicious Jeep that officers were investigating.  When they asked the suspect to get out of the car the suspect fired at the officers.

The police officers returned fire, killing the suspect at the scene.

One officer was hit in the upper arm, the other officer was hit in the thigh.  Both are doing well in the hospital and will recover.

A second man, the driver of the Jeep, was seen being put into handcuffs and was taken in for questioning.
