WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Two men were hospitalized after an argument turned violent and one man was shot early Saturday morning.

West Jordan police responded to a domestic dispute around 1:30 a.m. at Woodgate Apartments. Upon arrival they found a man who had been shot in the leg and another who had a large gash on his forehead, said Officer J.C. Holt of the West Jordan Police Department.

Holt said a boyfriend and girlfriend were arguing in a parked vehicle when a male citizen, with a sheathed gun, approached them to intervene. After the citizen intervened, witnesses say the argument turned physical and a shot was fired, striking the boyfriend in the leg.

The boyfriend was taken to an area hospital where he underwent surgery and is now in stable condition. The citizen was also taken to the hospital to treat the large gash on his head.

Detectives are currently investigating if the gun misfired or if the trigger was intentionally pulled, said Holt.

Police are not releasing the names of the victims at this time.
