Residents express concern over a body found in the Jordan River

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) – South- and West Jordan residents expressed concern Sunday after rescue crews retrieved a body from the Jordan River

"I don't think I'd come down here at night,” one dog walker said.

The Jordan River Parkway Trail stretches from the Great Salt Lake to Utah County.  Joggers, bikers, and other recreationists use the trail every day.

"We come here all the time.  We bring our dogs, our kids... It's a nice area.  It's safe," said Charles Brewerton, who lives near the trail.

People out walking the trail this morning were alarmed when they realized something was not right.  They called 911.

"They noticed a foul odor around the area, and happened to notice what they thought was a human body floating in the water," explained Sam Winkler, Master Officer of the South Jordan Police Department.

South Jordan rescue crews responded to the call and found an adult male's body there at the scene.  Investigators still have a lot of unanswered questions.

"Right now, it's still too early in the investigation to know if a crime has occurred or not," Winkler said.

People living near area say they are anxious to find out where the body came from.

"It's a flowing body of water, so it really could've come from anywhere," said Brewerton.

The Jordan River has had its fair share of body recoveries in the past.  Still, visitors say that does not make the situation easy.

"It's terrible.  It's sad to know that somewhere somebody's family is hurting," said Brewerton.
