SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - Police are investigating what appears to be a homicide on Helm Avenue, about 3600 south off State Street in South Salt Lake.

Police say just before 8 Monday night they received multiple calls reporting gunshots in the area.

A man found dead in this silver 4-door pickup truck.

“It is actually stopped in the travel lane, in the middle of the road. A couple of the doors were open,” said Gary Keller with South Salt Lake Police Department.

Police say he was shot but they are not sure that's what killed him.

“Never the less this is being treated as a homicide,” said Keller.

The man found in the truck is believed to be 30-40 years-old. He's not been identified yet.

Officers know plenty of people witnessed the commotion on Helm and State Street

“We had multiple people running from the area. We had a group of 4-5 that ran south. We had a group of 3-4 that ran to the north,” said Keller.

It is believed that this all started with a fight.

“We don't know if this was an altercation that began within the vehicle, a fight started in the vehicle or if it started between the people in the vehicle and people outside the vehicle,” said Keller.
